Wide Open Cross Country Camp

Welcome to Wide Open Cross Country Camp! Since 2010, we have had a blast every summer hosting cross country camps for high school and middle school athletes all over the Southeast.

At Wide Open, we understand that we are just one part of your athlete’s running program. We view our cross country camp as a means to inspire, educate, and build fitness for athletes as they prepare for the their cross country season. Here are a few ways we do that in just one week:

  1. Our training philosophy.

We want athletes to leave excited, informed and healthy. Not tired and worn out. Our week of training at camp is designed to be one piece of your athlete’s training program; not the pinnacle of their cross country season. We don’t ask any of our campers to prove their toughness by running mileage totals that don’t match their fitness level.  We don’t want campers to leave feeling drained and possibly injured. Whether you are a state champion or a beginner,  we emphasize mileage equal to your fitness, focused workouts, and recovery runs.

  1. Our teaching.

We teach athletes how to improve as a runner… beyond just running more. Being a successful high school cross country runner is so much more than being in good shape. We don’t just stress running form and racing strategy, athletes are taught and actually practice skills all week.  We also prepare athletes to improve through recovery, nutrition, and goal setting.

  2. Our counselors.

We hire counselors whose top priority is helping your athlete improve. We only allow enthusiastic and knowledgeable athletes to be counselors at Wide Open Camps. Most of these counselors are current and former collegiate athletes, many of whom were campers at Wide Open Camps. These counselors are not at camp only to do their own training. During the week, Wide Open counselors will run, eat, learn, and compete alongside your athletes.

Thank you for checking out Wide Open Camps. Whether you’re from Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Virginia, or somewhere else, if you like to run, we hope to see you this summer,
