Wide Open Cross Country Camp

The Alabama July 2018 Wide Open Cross Country Camp sessions are five day four night camps located on the secluded campus of St. Bernard Prep, just outside of Cullman, Alabama. Our Alabama camps are open to high school and middle school athletes. Both individual runners and full cross country teams are encouraged to attend. With a week of great training on wide, shaded trails at the end of July, our Alabama cross country camp session can provide athletes a motivating bookend to their summer training just before their team practices begin.

The Alabama Wide Open Cross Country Camp sessions will be open to day campers. The day camper fee covers breakfast and lunch. Day campers who wish to stay for dinner and other evening activities can do so for an additional fee to cover the cost of dinner. The fee can be paid when registering.

While the number of day campers allowed at camp are unlimited, lodging for the Alabama July session of Wide Open Cross Country Camp is limited. Rooms will be awarded on a first come first serve basis. Rooms will be considered reserved with a $100 deposit and the camper forms filled out.

Running Camp Specifics

Typical camp days include morning and evening running sessions as well as midday learning sessions on sprint mechanics or running form and core strength. While every camper will get in a good week of training, our goal is not to wear athletes out nor have them prove how many miles they can run in a week. We communicate with individual athletes and coaches to make sure athletes are running an appropriate number of miles according to their fitness level, age, and previous summer training.

Our days also have plenty of scheduled downtime for athletes to rest, recover, and have fun. During downtime throughout the week athletes will be treated to guest speakers and lecturers ranging from running shoe specialists to college cross country coaches. Additionally, every evening at camp athletes will be able to spend time with their own coaches to discuss goals and the upcoming cross country season. For athletes who come without their coach, our counselors will lead discussions about goal setting and improving as a runner.
